Thumbs Up for Blackberry Bling Nail Art

Nail art is cool but sometimes it’s just a bit too much for everyday.   Enter the Blackberry Bling, a new trend, where all of your nails are polished normally but the art and/or glitter is saved for just your thumbs.

Whether you have a Blackberry or your texting away on some other type of cellphone your thumbs should look hot while hovering over that mini keyboard.

For this super easy nail art design as always I started with a base coat of clear polish.

I then used:

  • Wet n Wild #451 (cheap doesn’t have names but it doesn’t mean it’s not good!)  This color was used for all my fingers.
  • N.Y.C. Little Italy White – For the thumbs, I used this lightly to make a nice base for the silver polish.
  • Bratz silver polish (came in one of those gift sets my daughter received as a gift) After the white was dry I added a coat of silver nail polish.
  • N.Y.C.  White Lights Glitter-  This is what I used to finish the polish on my thumbs and give it that cool glittery bling.
  • Flower nail art decals bought in the nail section at Walmart.   Once my nails were thoroughly dry I put on the decals and used a clear coat to insure they stay on.

Pretty simple and pretty cool.

Blackberry Bling Nail Art

This design idea came from Glamour.com:

As for the origin of the Blackberry Bling trend: I received a press release saying that manicurist Dawn Sterling of the Carol’s Daughter Back Room Hand & Foot Spa in New York coined the term and predicted that this would be a big nail trend this winter. Her reasoning? “Everyone has a BlackBerry, and even if you don’t, you’ve got something that you’re texting and emailing on all day–with your thumbs. Since your thumbs are always in sight they’ve become a huge fashion accessory.” In her version, both the thumb and index finger are painted the flashier polish color.

Pac-Man Nail Art Design Tutorial

I decided I would have some fun this week and go old school and do a Pac-Man nail art design.  I’ve said before I’m no artist so I’m sure you’re nails are going to look really great.

pacmanpolishes

For this nail art I used the following polishes:

  • L.A. Colors Art Deco Black
  • L.A. Colors Art Deco Baby Pink
  • Sally Hanson Mellow Yellow
  • N.Y.C. Little Italy (white)
  • N.Y.C. Big Apple Red Creme
  • N.Y.C. Long Wearing Clear
  • some random orange my daughter had

You’ll want to start with the clear coat as a base as always, especially since dark colors like black can stain your nails.  After that dries apply the black polish to the whole nail and let dry.

Next you’ll use the white polish to make the dots and the beginnings of the ghosts.  For the dots I put a small glob of white polish on a piece of paper, dip the tip of a toothpick in it and lightly press it on your nails to make the dots.  You might want to do a couple of test dots on your paper.

Then pick a couple of nails that you want the ghosts on.  Make sure your brush isn’t too loaded with polish you just need a light coat of polish in your ghost shape.  The reason for this step is that it’s difficult to cover black with a color so we’re just giving the colors a nice base to work with.

Once that is dry fill in the ghosts with the different colors.

Now it’s time for Pac-Man I simply loaded the brush with yellow and lightly dropped it on my nail to get a nice circle shape.

While your yellow circle is drying get out the tooth pick again to make the eyes on the ghosts, go back over with the black making a smaller dot of black inside the white.

Now that Pac-Man should be dry take the black polish (the one I used has a small brush) with a small brush paint the triangle mouth.  You may use your small brush to toothpick tip to make his eye.

Finish with a clear coat.
