Thumbs Up for Blackberry Bling Nail Art
Nail art is cool but sometimes it’s just a bit too much for everyday. Enter the Blackberry Bling, a new trend, where all of your nails are polished normally but the art and/or glitter is saved for just your thumbs.
Whether you have a Blackberry or your texting away on some other type of cellphone your thumbs should look hot while hovering over that mini keyboard.
For this super easy nail art design as always I started with a base coat of clear polish.
I then used:
- Wet n Wild #451 (cheap doesn’t have names but it doesn’t mean it’s not good!) This color was used for all my fingers.
- N.Y.C. Little Italy White – For the thumbs, I used this lightly to make a nice base for the silver polish.
- Bratz silver polish (came in one of those gift sets my daughter received as a gift) After the white was dry I added a coat of silver nail polish.
- N.Y.C. White Lights Glitter- This is what I used to finish the polish on my thumbs and give it that cool glittery bling.
- Flower nail art decals bought in the nail section at Walmart. Once my nails were thoroughly dry I put on the decals and used a clear coat to insure they stay on.
Pretty simple and pretty cool.

This design idea came from Glamour.com:
As for the origin of the Blackberry Bling trend: I received a press release saying that manicurist Dawn Sterling of the Carol’s Daughter Back Room Hand & Foot Spa in New York coined the term and predicted that this would be a big nail trend this winter. Her reasoning? “Everyone has a BlackBerry, and even if you don’t, you’ve got something that you’re texting and emailing on all day–with your thumbs. Since your thumbs are always in sight they’ve become a huge fashion accessory.” In her version, both the thumb and index finger are painted the flashier polish color.
Sunshine and Vines DIY Nail Design

Here a a simple nail design that is made easy by using Sharpie markers for better control of your nail design. I’m a stick figure artist and this was easy for me to do so, if you have any artistic ability this should be a breeze!

Here’s a list of supplies you’ll need:
- clear coat nail polish
- white nail polish
- Sharpie markers in green, light green, pink, magenta, purple, orange and yellow
Now that you have your supplies here is your step by step lesson.
- polish your all of your nails with clear coat and let dry
- polish all of your nails lightly with white nail polish I recommend only one coat (for this tutorial we used NYC Little Italy) let your nails dry thoroughly.
- in the upper corners of your nails use the orange marker to make a quarter sun (this does not have to be perfect at all as we are going to make is smear!) just below the orange draw a line of yellow.
- using the clear coat polish gently apply just to the upper part of the nail this will cause the marker to smear and give a soft sun look, let your nails dry again
- now with your green markers free hand some vines down in the opposite corner of the nail from the sun use your pink, purple and magenta markers to make little dots for flowers
- if you choose to use a top coat at this point you must gently pat it on the vines or they will smear!! Let the patted on clear dry and then finish with another coat of clear.
